The GEDI system has been instrumental in understanding the health and carbon storage in forests, providing a more accurate measure of tree heights and carbon storage.

The system, which continues to operate from the ISS, was initially projected to last two years but continues to provide valuable data for forest health monitoring.

Recent work has shown that the system can accurately measure forest ecology diversity and carbon storage, with key measurements produced in Tanzania’s forest regions.
