NASA has convened a meeting with representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), police and fire departments, and commercial industry to discuss the expansion of drone operations beyond the “visual line of sight”.

This is a significant step for public safety drones, which are currently limited to areas within visual line of sight for safety reasons.

The feedback from this meeting will support the FAA’s evaluation of commercial drone flights beyond visual line of sight, currently being conducted in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
