The largest database of 3D imagery of Alcatraz Island has been built, largely due to the work of Emesent, the makers of autonomous Slam-based LIDAR scanner Hovermap.

The project, organized by Pete Kelsey in collaboration with the National Park Service, involved 100+ LIDAR scans in three weeks on the island.

Boston Dynamics was also involved in the scans, using the Emesent Hovermap on the Boston Dynamics Spot robot to enter rooms where humans could not.
