The European Space Agency (ESA) is planning to launch the first low Earth orbit (LEFT) PNT (Low Earth Orbit, Positioning, Navigation and Timing) demonstration satellites in the 2025-26 timeframe, with the aim of exploring the added value of this system for future autonomous vehicles.

This will allow the agency to evaluate the benefits of this new technology and potentially lead to the procurement and deployment of a full LOT PNT constellation for global services.

The ESA is also continuing to work in cooperation with the European Commission on the EU’s GPS program, the Galileo program.
