Electronic warfare in the Middle East and Ukraine is affecting air travel, with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warning pilots about GPS jamming.

This issue has been exacerbated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, which has led to an increase in radio frequency interference across the Middle East.

Despite being illegal, GPS jamming devices are inexpensive and easily obtained online, and aircraft systems have been unable to detect and correct for GPS spoofing.
