On 30 July 2024, European navigators celebrated the 90th anniversary of Guglielmo Marconi’s first demonstration of microwave-guided navigation.

The event, which included a reenactment of Marconi’s demonstration in the Bay of Silence, off Sestri Levante, Italy, was led by European Space Agency (ESA) Head of FutureNav Marco Falcone.

The historic vessel Leudo performed a blind navigation maneuver, guided by radio impulses transmitted from the shore, in a reenactment of Marconi’s original demonstration.
