An undisclosed customer has awarded MDA 180 million Canadian dollars ($131 million) to start engineering a non-geostationary constellation of 36 satellites.

This is the second customer order for MDA’s new software-defined satellite design, indicating a growing demand for the company’s products.

The deal could potentially be worth significantly more if MDA becomes the prime contractor for the constellation next year, and the company is expanding its production facilities in Montreal to meet this increasing demand.
